What is the best way to spend summertime with friends? This frequently question is very popular around teenagers, students and people why like to spend time with fun. The best way to have fun is to go somewhere, and the majority of people choose music festivals as their destinations. According to billboard.com 32 million people attends music festivals at least ones a year. But have you ever think about consequences from festivals?
Each festival involves people, and people mean a lot of issues. Music festivals are environmental disasters when it comes to the amount of trash generated, and this stems mostly from festival-goers’ strange disposable mentality when it comes to camping gear. At least 80% of all trash generated by music festivals comes from campers. People come to the festivals to have fun, but a lot of them do not think about the environment issues what they can bring.
Most of the times camping area located near or on festival zone, people cook, live, sleep there and literally try to create a home atmosphere. As usual, plastic bags, plastic plates and cups are most useful during the festivals. Not all organizators have separate area for camps, and the bigger issue are garbage bins. The main problem of all events is budget, not all festivals can provide necessary number of garbage bins. And it is almost impossible to predict the number of attendees.
Today the environment issues are the main question around the world. People try to safe planet providing green events and festivals, but not all organizations can go totally green. Food and drinks are the main revenue generators, and the main generators of the pollution. To avoid and predict the environmental pollution people and event’s organizations need to do some basics things:
- Recycle the drinking bottles, paper, and food waste;
- Be responsible and clean the camping area after the festival;
- Use disposal bags, avoid plastic bags;
- Reduce the amount of food and drinks;
- Use public transportation for reaching festival destinations, to reduce car use.
Starting to do this simple steps can help to make events more green, not only from organization site, but from people perspectives. It is much more better when bought sites understand the reason.

Q: What the other green tips music festivals can use to become more green?
Hello, Anastasiia!
ReplyDeleteThis is quite an important subject you touch; Music Festivals is one of the most popular summer activities and it’s essential that people would care about the impact they make on the surrounding besides selfishly having a good time.
As you mentioned, Environment is indeed one of the main issues in the world, and we must pay a careful attention to the damage that could eventually destroy our planet.
I strongly agree with the solutions you have suggested and I would recommend that Festival organizers would train their staff and volunteers to take the steps you highlighted as well as make sure to approach visitors to do so. As greening initiatives attract people’s attention more and more nowadays, they will likely to participate as long as they’re given the instructions.
Thank you!
